Be a Reflective Leader

August 2, 2023 Karl Bimshas

Busy professionals and leaders who pause to reflect on their passions, values, and sense of purpose become more effective. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a few minutes each day or a longer session once a week; they know it’s essential to set aside dedicated time for self-reflection regularly. Doing this positively impacts your overall well-being and sense of direction in your personal and professional life, and committing to this reflective practice yields transformative benefits. You’ll enhance decision-making skills, boost motivation, and cultivate a more profound sense of fulfillment and happiness.

How can you get started?

Take your time and begin by answering these questions below and make a note of your thoughts and insights. Remember that reflection may not yield immediate results but can be valuable for clarifying your passions, values, and purpose. Be patient with yourself and allow the answers to unfold naturally.

  1. What activities or hobbies make you lose track of time because you enjoy them so much?
  2. What topics or subjects do you love learning about or discussing with others?
  3. If you had unlimited resources, what would you spend your time doing?
  4. What are your natural talents and skills, the things people often compliment you on?
  5. What tasks or activities do you excel at effortlessly?
  6. How could you leverage your strengths to make a positive impact on others?
  7. What principles or values do you hold dear and strive to live by?
  8. What behaviors in others do you admire and respect the most?
  9. What are your non-negotiable items in terms of personal integrity?
  10. How do you want to contribute to the lives of others, your community, or the world?
  11. What problems or challenges in society are you most passionate about addressing?
  12. What positive change would you like to see because of your efforts?
  13. When have you felt the most fulfilled and satisfied in life?
  14. Do you recall a moment or two when you made a difference in someone’s life or felt a deep purpose?
  15. What would it be like if you could achieve anything, and why is that so important to you?
  16. What dreams or aspirations have you had in the past that you still hold onto, and why?
  17. Are there recurring themes or patterns in your dreams and aspirations?
  18. How would you like your ideal lifestyle to look, personally and professionally?
  19. What type of environment and people would you like to surround yourself with?
  20. What kind of work and life environment would align with your values and passions?
  21. Do your current activities, job, or commitments align with your passions and values? If not, how can you incorporate more of what you love into your life?
  22. Close your eyes and imagine your life ten years from now. What do you see yourself doing, and how does it make you feel?
